Ceramic Materials

 Ceramic composites for IR window and dome applications are being examined. Advanced ceramic materials are being developed to replace sapphire, the most durable, commercially available electro-optic window and dome material. These ceramic materials will see application in guided weapon system sensor domes that provide greater resistance to thermal shock and impact damage as compared to sapphire windows while remaining transparent in the IR range.
