The OBA+ GEN02 sensors improve upon the previous generation OBA sensors with 125% increased rechargeable battery life, improved signal integrity (less noise in recorded blast waveforms), and increased accuracy and precision with respect to laboratory reference blast sensors—all while keeping the size the same.

Key Updates

Battery life: Upgrades to the circuitry, firmware, and battery technology enable Generation 02 OBA to provide up to 54 hours of continuous operation.  Continuous operation is defined as active use while the device is being worn, which keeps the sensor awake.  When no movement is detected for longer than the configurable sleep-timer interval, the device automatically enters sleep mode.  The sleep function can also be disabled.

Signal integrity, accuracy, and precision: Based on laboratory and live-fire field testing against laboratory-grade reference instrumentation, the sensing circuitry has been refined to improve measurement accuracy and precision while reducing noise.  These enhancements provide higher confidence in the accuracy of recorded blast-event data.

OBA Sensor Highlights

  • Omnidirectional blast sensing: Five integrated pressure sensors provide comprehensive blast sensing coverage, enabling accurate detection and recording of blast events from all directions.

  • High-speed data acquisition: All pressure sensors are sampled at a sampling rate of 400Khz, which enables precise waveform capture and accurate detection of peak blast pressures.

  • Multi-buffered blast data sampling: Multi-buffered sampling supports rapid-fire event detection by recording blast data to memory while continuously monitoring for subsequent events. This architecture provides near-zero holdoff between events that exceed the configurable trigger threshold, with capture windows of up to 80 milliseconds.

  • Modern IoT device architecture: The near-zero interaction data pipeline has been continuously refined to support a modern IoT architecture. Recorded data is automatically uploaded and processed whenever the device connects to a trusted network, while sensor configuration, management, and control are handled through a centralized cloud platform.

  • Rugged, waterproof housing: The sensor is enclosed in a durable, fully waterproof housing designed for reliable operation in demanding environments.

  • Helmet power adapter: A Gentex RAILINK® helmet power adapter allows the sensor to be continually charged via a helmet power pack

With the OmniBlast® Air GEN02, Advanced Materials and Devices brings a new level of precision and reliability to blast measurement for wearable blast sensor technology.
